Elk Falls - Staunton Colorado

Elk Falls

Located at Staunton State Park near Aspen Park and Shaffers Crossing Colorado, the 12.5 mile  hike seemed more like 16 miles, it whipped our asses, with elevation of 1600 ft!

We traveled up the side mount and through pine clearing where the trail was fairly easy. A couple of narrow  passes and round to a service road that took us down to a valley through a meadow. It was the nicest part to the lake. The lake has a small structure where you can break as well as view the little beaver that lives by. Hiking about 4 more miles around a rocky pass around several slick rock areas we came to a meadow and trailhead that descends to a waterfall from a mountain peak. It was very steep and stunning rock formation where water had erode the stone for a Scenic spectacle.  The trail has some dramatic scenic changes and there is wildlife present. The trail elevation came close to 2000ft, yet it is pretty tough for such a distance.
